Vertical Tile Backsplash in Ken Caryl
This kitchen backsplash in a Ken Caryl home used 2x8 cream ceramic tile set vertically in a stacked pattern. Vertical stacking of narrow tiles creates a subtle striped effect that draws the eye upward and makes the backsplash zone feel taller. The stacked vertical pattern also requires careful attention to plumb: each column must be perfectly vertical, and any deviation accumulates across the width of the wall. We use a laser level to establish the first column and check it repeatedly as we work outward.
The cream tile pairs well with the cream shaker cabinets in this Ken Caryl kitchen, creating a tonal layering effect against the dark countertop. The grout color was kept close to the tile color to minimize the visible grid and let the vertical rhythm read as texture rather than pattern.
