Ranch Home Kitchen Floor in Columbine
This floor tile project replaced original vinyl in a Columbine ranch home kitchen with 6x24 light gray wood-look porcelain plank tile. The plank format was chosen to complement the white shaker cabinet renovation happening simultaneously and to visually extend the kitchen into the adjacent dining area. Plank tile set in a running offset pattern requires careful attention to lippage, the height difference between adjacent tile edges, because the long edges of planks are more susceptible to variation than square tiles.
The concrete slab subfloor in this Columbine home was in good condition but had a low spot near the dishwasher area that required self-leveling compound before tile could be set. We used a large-format mortar with a medium-bed consistency to accommodate the plank size and ensure full coverage beneath each tile.
